Postmortem


Hallo, I’m Wafphlez and this is «The Polygon». The first game that I actually released somewhere.

I had an idea. I wanted to make space-ish top-down asteroid blasting shooter game. Even the project codename is WANFWA (We are not friends with asteroids). But I don’t.

I've been working on my game all this month and I did a progress. It was a long journey and I’m so happy to eventually see the actual results of my work – it works and it makes me happy.

What went right:

 This is not a regular top down shooter. It has some different features, different or not-standard controls behavior – smooth and jelly at the same time. I’m so glad that it all came together nicely.

The game looks pretty, everything glows, it’s colorful and fun to play. I have an image in my head of what I will do next and I’m so excited.

What went wrong:

I had to delete all progress for the second and third weeks or so. It was sad... There was some complicated features that I wanted to add to the game. Some of them went into oblivion. It should be a mobile game, but I think I would like to make the PC version first.

What I have learned:

  • How to do games from start to finish.
  • Unity GameEngine and it’s features: ParticleSystems, RenderPipelines, PlayerPrefs, Physics, UI and a lot more.
  • How to program better.
  • How to devlog and make posts about my progress.
  • How it is actually fun to make games.

It helped me a lot.


In conclusion:

As I mentioned before, it’s my first release game and I’m so proud of it. «The Polygon» is so far from finish. I will improve it. I want it to be done.
